War effort - due to the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia our ministry expanded to include support for those in our community who either chose or were drafted to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces. This included many of our orphan graduates, volunteers and ministry partners. At the onset of the war, our immediate concern was to evacuate the children at the orphanage, their care givers, guardians, orphan graduates and volunteers. The majority of these evacuees were safely settled to shelter in neighboring countries such as Romania, Poland, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Czech Republic and the USA. We evacuated over 300 people during 2022.
Hope Now supports multiple organizations in Ukraine including youth camps, local ministries for widows and food services for the poor. The primary focus is on summer camps held at our facility called Kompas Park located in the village of Khrychatyk near Cherkassy. Since Kompas Parks inception in 2007 approximately 400 children, 100 widows and 150 disabled people are hosted annually. However during 2022 due to the war in Ukraine we were unable to host full scale camps at Kompas Park due to limited bomb shelter facilities. Camps were limited to approximately 50% attendees compared to a typical year.
Orphan sponsorships: The orphan sponsorships program serves 187 orphans at Shpola Orphanage in Ukraine. Sponsors in the United States are paired with orphans in Shpola to provide care and support. Monthly sponsorships provide necessities including clothing and urgent medical care, along with mentorships and educational and lifeskill programs at the orphanage.
