Program areas at Hope Springs Water
We have continued to collaborate with our local partners and our in-country driller in Kenya. Together, we've identified 18 additional sites for borehole drilling across western Kenya, and will start these new drilling projects in 2024. With the support of the Ministry of Health, we were also able to oversee the construction of a latrine at an orphanage in Siboti, which improved the health and wellbeing of the children and allowed the orphanage to remain open. We also funded the construction of a well in Mukwa which provides clean water to 3,600 people. In Ethiopia, we began our new 3 year plan for 2023-2025. We drilled 10 wells in 2023, benefiting over 1,370 people in 10 communities in the Southwest Shewa Region. We established 9 water, sanitation, and hygiene committees who will oversee the ongoing maintenance of the wells. We also provided health and hygiene education to 351 students and distributed 353 Menstrual Hygiene Management kits to school aged girls in partnership with school directors.
We concluded our efforts on the Brownsville-Matamoros border by sending one final truckload of water to assist in the efforts to serve the people of the area.
In Guatemala, we're focusing on the Izabal Region, partnering with the Guatemala Baptist Convention. We have continued to work from our base in Morales, collaborating with local officials and identifying local drillers who can work with us in Guatemala to drill wells with our equipment. This has increased our knowledge of local water tables and will expand our ability to drill more wells. In Nicaragua, we partnered with HyrdroLogica to train 9 current and future Team Leaders in Managua. The Team Leaders drilled a new well as part of their training, increasing access to clean water in Managua. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, we provided health and hygiene education to 150 students in Bilwi, and distributed 400 Menstrual Hygiene management kits to girls.
