Program areas at Hortense & Louis Rubin Dialysis Center
The purpose of The Center is to receive, hold, invest and administer funds (including bequests and contributions) and distribute or donate such funds for charitable activities. All program and general expenses are related to supporting The prevention, management and treatment of kidney disease and associated co-morbidities of kidney disease.
The Center established The endowed Hortense & Louis Rubin community health fund (Rubin health fund), under The supervision of The community foundation for The greater capital region, Inc. (community foundation), which provides funding for grant awards to 501(c)(3) organizations consistent with The Center's charitable purposes. For calendar year 2023, The Rubin health fund approved/provided nine 501(c)(3) organizations grants, totaling $465,536, addressing kidney disease and associated co-morbidities.
The overall solvency of The Center provides for ongoing contributions and resources to The Rubin health fund's ability to reach many needy capital district communities, residents and families, whereby addressing safety net services that contribute to kidney disease. Some examples are as follows: access to healthy food; health screenings and services for children and adults, emergency funds for dialysis patients for medications, transportation and utility bills.
