Over five exciting days, middle school students will embark on a unique journey that combines the spirit of christmas with invaluable leadership development opportunities. Set in the enchanting backdrop of grapevine, Texas, known as the christmas capital of Texas, our camp offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to orchestrate this spectacular event. From learning about event planning and logistics to experiencing the creativity and teamwork involved in decorating the town, participants will gain firsthand insight into the magic behind the scenes. But our camp isn't just about christmas decorations and festivities. We'll also delve into the House of Shine framework, a holistic approach to personal and leadership development. Through engaging activities and self-discovery exercises, students will explore their unique strengths, passions, and values, empowering them to Shine brightly both personally and as leaders. Theme: christmas in july summer camp: where young leaders come to grow age group:middle school age (11-14) max # of kids: 16 kids in campbradley roundtablea tool uniquely located as part of the exhibit at the House of Shine. The purpose is to help people talk about things that matter in a safe welcoming environment. We help guide people through difficult conversations using 6 thinking hats. The table itself can be used in many ways starting with corresponding thought provoking bubbles color corresponding to the spinning table. Additionally, we post weekly articles in hopes that people will engage in civil discourse.shine uintroducing a series of workshops called Shine u! These classes connect local experts with unique hobbies, interests, and experiences to our community. We're promoting learning and community with learning in community. An in-house program that highlights the letters "h" hobbies, "i" interests/irritants and "e" experiences from our Shine framework. Shine u workshops connect people (people who want to teach and people who want to learn) with unique hobbies, interests/irritants and experiences to help promote learning, diversity, inclusivity and community. The objective is to foster discovery, exploration and experimentation for our participants in a low stakes kind of way. In today's fast-paced world, where knowledge is constantly expanding, it can be challenging to keep up with everything that's going on. Luckily, there are people with unique hobbies, interests/irritants and experiences who have in-depth knowledge of specific topics. These individuals can help others learn about these unique topics, creating a valuable learning experience for all involved. Shine u connects these teachers with learners, making it easier for people to learn about subjects they're passionate or curious about.this experience happens at least twice a month with various community members with unique passions and talents.shine clubthis will serve as House of Shine's way to explore and practice the art of gratitude. Gratitude is linked to happiness in children by age 5. This means that instilling gratitude in your child at a young age could help them grow up to be happier people. Let's start raising happy children by teaching them gratitude with our custom-designed curriculum! The gratitude challenge for kids, where do-it-yourself crafts meet random acts of kindness, teaches your child gratitude by using everyday household items where they create one-of-a-kind crafts that Shine. They will leave ready to share them with deserving people in their community.gratitude is not reserved just for those individuals that you know personallythere are many people in the community for whom your child might feel grateful. The gratitude challenge will help your child recognize these people by creating a creative craft they give away. Watch how good they feel when they do, and then watch the ripple effect. The Shine club is one of the most fun things to do with kids in dfw, and is best suited for children in grades 3 - 5. This will happen once a week at the House of Shine throughout the summer with hopes of continuing through the school year.field tripsduring our standard field trip experience, students will learn who they are and why they matter, or their Shine (strengths, hobbies, interests/ irritants, needs, experiences), explore our self-discovery museum, and engage in an activity from our k-12 curriculum.group size: each of our field trip experiences is thoughtfully designed for one classroom at a time, accommodating 20-30 students maximum. Each class period delves into another aspect of the students Shine to acquire an understanding of their combination of talents and strengths.leadership institutejoining the House of Shine team as part of the leadership institute means joining us in this mission and in the journey to unearth your own Shine. Below you will discover the commitments involved with this internship. This experience is a fun way to navigate self-discovery, channeling your own talents and interests, and learning professional skills you will use the rest of your life.the change bowlthe change bowl - think shark tank meets community improvement projects - builds confident, self-aware leaders who know and understand what it means to make a commitment to themselves and their communities. How does it work? Local students ages 8-18 with a desire to improve their school or community, begin by submitting anapplication in the hopes that they will receive the funding to execute it. Student change-makers are then selected to present their community improvement idea to a panel of community leaders who will determine which ideas to fund. The change bowl empowers these young leaders by providing essential resources needed to initiate positive change in the world. Once awarded the funds, students embark on executing their idea, creating a ripple effect that brings about positive change in many corners of north texas.the leadership institute manages the change bowl program. During the course of the year, House of Shine is treated as a leadership laboratory where students come to grow. We replace textbooks with monthly interactive workshops that intentionally interlace lessons of self-awareness, community, life-skills, and leadership. The students take what they are learning in monthly workshops and apply it to a real life project - the conceptualization, planning, and execution of House of Shine's annual change bowl event. From the application to the marketing, fundraising, applicant interviews, and ultimately the execution of the event itself, the high schoolers of the leadership institute manage the entire program.artisan marketdiscover a world of creativity as our student entrepreneurs showcase and sell their handcrafted treasures, including jewelry, photography, jams, notecards, granola, dog treats, ornaments, pottery, wallets, pens, and more. It's a true celebration of youthful ingenuity.as they prepare for this special event, we guide these budding entrepreneurs on a journey to discover their unique Shine the intersection of their talents, interests, and the needs of their community. Each entrepreneur commits to giving at least 10% of their sales to a charity of their choice, making a difference while pursuing their passions.empowering these young leaders and being a part of House of Shine's mission to help individuals, organizations, and communities thrive. By nurturing confident, self-aware students, we're building a brighter future for our community together.next artisan market: november 9th, 2024requirements: students will be required to attend 3 sessions; kick-off meeting, Shine, and point of intersection.
