Program areas at House Rabbit Society
Adoption program, including rabbit care expenses & veterinary care: HRS rescued 119 rabbits, and new adoptive homes for 83 rabbits were found. We assisted 15 municipal shelters and humane societies. Medical care exams and spay/neuters were given for 315 rabbits. We conducted 18 exams for other groups.
Emergency rescue and chapter grants: five grants were made to five other rabbit rescue organizations to provide vet care, benefitting about 200 rabbits. Additionally, one grant was made to an HRS chapter to help rent an off-site quarantine space and buy an electrostatic disinfectant sprayer, remediating the effects of an RDHV outbreak.
Education program: education programs included educational presentations and free rabbit educational materials, mailed and handed out in vet offices, at events, and at the Richmond, CA headquarters. An issue of House Rabbit Journal was produced and distributed to members. The rabbit.org website was maintained with educational materials and resources. 67 e-newsletters were produced and emailed to supporters. 184 rabbit health and care consultations were provided through online classes and counseling sessions. Prior to COVID, HRS participated in, presented at or tabled at two conferences: NAVC and North Atlantic Bunfest. We ran an Easter campaign about not buying an Easter rabbit. Licensed HRS educators provided local support and education in their communities.
