Program areas at Housing Education and Economic Development
Housing Education and Economic Development (HEED) undertook a Fair Housing Initiatives Program Private Enforcement Initiative for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. As part of this initiative, HEED received 44 hours of training, performed education and outreach in the State of Mississippi that reached approximately 358,350 persons who speak English, Spanish, and Chinese, conducted 16 intake interviews, recruited and trained 18 fair housing testers, conducted 64 tests, assisted 5 persons in obtaining a reasonable accommodation, and filed 7 fair housing complaints.
HEED also provided education and counseling services to 25 households with the aid of a CDBG grant from the City of Jackson, Mississippi.
Housing Education and Economic Development (HEED) undertook a Comprehensive Housing Counseling project for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As part of this project, HEED provided homebuyer education to 3 persons, fair housing education to 13 persons, and foreclosure prevention education to 14 persons. HEED also provided one-on-one housing counseling to 167 households, including homeless, pre-purchase, post-purchase, rental and mortgage default. The total number of households served was 271.
HEED contracted with MS Home Saver program to provide processing of Homeowner Assistance Fund applications to assist homeowners affected by Covid-19 in reinstating their mortgage loans
HEED also held its 34th Annual Fair Housing, Fair Lending Conference, which was attended by 79 persons.
HEED was the recipient of a grant from Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, which was matched by local participating banks to support HEED in its efforts to provide fair housing services to the northern half of the State of Mississippi.
