Through legacy building exchanges, youth programming, mentorship facilitation and development, generative residencies, impact focused community building and stewardship we aim to galvanize the cultural core of Lindy Hop and recenter the gaze and presence of the African and African diasporic community towards this phenomenal cultural artifact. We recognize the noted long standing obstacles of financial, administrative and mentorship support to black dancers participation, development and the intergenerational transfer of the critical heritage of Lindy Hop and Jazz Dance. The Frankie Manning Foundation continues the work of Frankie Manning in spreading the culture and joy of Lindy hop by focusing on and ensuring the stories of Frankie Manning and the Savoy Ballroom are appropriately preserved and presented. This includes building community, connecting today with the past, and supporting the global Lindy hop community. The Foundation acknowledges Lindy hop is spread by people who love it through scene building, media coverage, education, and access to resources. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided financial support to community members, festivals, and organizations. Currently, we have 3 initiatives: The FMF Scholars Program To encourage continued growth of people dancing the Lindy hop around the world and fulfill Frankie's dream, the Frankie Manning Foundation has established a scholarship fund to develop new Scholars of Lindy hop who will bring the dance to new populations, both around the world and in African-American communities in the US. The FMF Scholars Program was able to support dancers coming from the United States, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa to attend various dance camps around the world, which will help prepare them to build Lindy hop programs and events in new communities all over the world. We hope to offer more scholarships to attend dance events and dance programs around the world for 2024. Youth Initiatives The Frankie Manning Foundation acknowledges the future of Lindy hop rests with today's school-age children. Many Lindy hoppers believe that these children's lives, both now and in the future, can be enriched and strengthened through learning the Lindy hop. We are expanding to offer local youth dance programs assistance with their programs. The Archives The Frankie Manning Foundation strives to educate people about the life and work of Frankie Manning through the collection and maintenance of a robust archive in the form of memorabilia, videos, biographies, and the promotion of oral history
