Program areas at HABRI
Habri conducts public education programming to generate broad awareness and acceptance of the health benefits of the human-animal Bond among the medical and scientific communities as well as the genreal public. With its partners, habri has created and made widely available educational videos and materials.
Habri relies on Research to advocate for a stronger role for pets in society. For example, habri conducted a comprehensive survey showing the benefits of pets in the workplace. The organization also advocated for domestic violence shelters to become more pet friendly, so that victims could find safe shelter with their pets.
Habri funds and administers Research grants to investigate the health outcomes of pet ownership and/or animal-assisted activities. Research projects examine the health effects of animals on humans within the broad categories of child health and development, healthy aging, and mental health and wellness. Results of this work have shown, for example, the benefits of service dogs for veterans with ptsd and the benefits of pets for childdren with autism.
