Program areas at IndyHumane

Companion Animal Care: we provide shelter, veterinary care and adoption services to homeless dogs and cats; we operate an extensive foster program for pets needing extraordinary care due to age, health or behavior needs; we offer low cost vaccine clinics at 2 stationary locations.
Low Cost Spay/Neuter Surgery: targeting 10 zip codes in our city, IndyHumane offers low cost, high volume surgery to all pet owners. Our organization has helped lower intake at our municipal shelter by working with the neighborhoods where unwanted litters overwhelm pet owners. We offer special programming for community cats, TNR resources and a transport program for owners without the ability to access our clinic.
Outreach/Education: targeting our efforts in 10 underserviced zip codes, we provide outreach via the Pet Awareness Wagon and our exceptional outreach staff. We are available to participate in school presentations, provide resources in our community at special events, and host a summer day camp for children and teens.
The Humane Society of Indianapolis partnered with Chewy.com to distribute pet food and supplies valued at over $2 million to shelters and rescues across thirty-seven Indiana counties and six states.
Modeling a Pet Resource Center after other successful Programs in other states, the Pet Resource Center will support keeping pets in the home and/or delaying intake for someone who may be releasing pets into our care until such time as it is reasonable to take the pets into custody. IndyHumane's Pet Resource Center will Provide judgment-free, empathetic, equitable support and solutions that include: 1) Access to free food through IndyHumane's Downtown Pantry 2) Access to free vaccines, Preventatives, and other medical care as needed 3) Financial support to assist with rental security deposits 4) Free pet supplies, crates, fencing, other pet equipment 5) Access to sites like ReHome and other self-rehoming pet sites 6) Collaboration and referrals to local partners like FIDO and IndyCARES that offer specialized solutions for Pet owners (fencing, expanded medical support, etc.) 7) Pet training and behavior resources
