THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF PAGOSA SPRINGS, INC. EXEMPT PURPOSE ACHIEVEMENTS FOR 2023 included caring for over 556 pets who entered the shelter, finding homes for 268 cats and dogs, (each was spayed or neutered if needed, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for any illnesses). 112 other pets were transferred to larger no-kill shelters for successful adoption, and 183 stray cats and dogs were returned to their families.A total of 604 spay/neuter surgeries were performed, 412 of those were for community animals through various voucher programs. Additionally, 190 feral cats were trapped, fixed, and vaccinated as part of our TNR program.The organization hosted its first two low-cost vaccine clinics, providing core vaccines to over 120 community pets.HSPS distributed emergency veterinary medical assistance for 38 community pets, totaling $6,856.The HSPS food bank program provided over 13,000 lbs of free pet food to people in need in our community.The Humane Society Thrift Store downtown had a makeover with a beautiful mural painted by a local artist.The organization completed a new, updated, mobile-friendly website, making it easier to find information and donate online.There were continued improvements made to the walking paths and outdoor kennel facilities at the shelter, allowing for comfortable and safe walking and play areas for the shelter dogs. There were also improvements made to the Serenity Garden.The organization implemented an online employee scheduling system and a new POS system to better track and analyze staffing, as well as Thrift Store sales and efficiencies.The Thrift Store was remodeled in a few areas to create a more comfortable and efficient shopping experience.The HSPS Shelter continued to expand its animal enrichment program to rehabilitate shelter animals with behavioral issues, making them more adoptable.
