Program areas at Humane Society of Tampa Bay
In 2022, 5,169 pets were surrendered by their owners to the shelter. 6,530 local stray animals were rescued. 1,038 pets were transferred from other Florida shelters and 1,008 pets were transferred in from high-risk shelters outside of Florida. 92% of these pets or 13,298 were saved by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay by providing temporary shelter for these homeless animals, placing these pets with responsible and prepared pet owners, spaying or neutering all animals prior to adoption, providing preventive medical care and treatment of illness and injury as well as microchipping.
Community Outreach- Provides public education for the proper care and treatment of animals. Thousands of people are educated through distribution of educational material, newsletters and our website. Pet Food Pantry - Helping people keep their pets by providing 165,865 pounds of free pet food and other items to help keep pets in their homes.
Animal Hospital - offers affordable full service veterinary care to the public and provides the proper preventive treatment so pets can be protected from diseases. In 2022, 39,767 pets were seen at the Animal Hospital. 29,038 pets received wellness exams, 10,729 had surgeries performed. 9,739 pets received sterilizations, including 4,269 feral cats. Affordable healthcare helps owners keep their pets rather than relinquish them.
