Program areas at Humanity Now

Greece: In the 2021-2022 fiscal year, Greece accounted for the vast majority of Humanity Now funding, including support to 20 different aid projects. We helped in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki and their surrounding regions as well as on several Aegean Islands, including Lesvos, Samos, and Chios. We offer three examples here: 1) Humanity Now paid for food and supplies distributed by Refugee Biriyani and Bananas, which aids residents of a displaced persons camp on Chios Island. 2) We helped fund the child-friendly space that Lighthouse Relief operates in Ritsona Camp near Athens. 3) We supplied operating funds, electric heaters, and warm clothing to Velos Youth, which runs a community center for displaced youth in Athens. Additionally, once the war in Ukraine began, we offered funding to Irida Womens Center in Northern Greece to bolster their free shop with inventory for refugees arriving from Ukraine. Number served: Approx. 5700
Ukraine Crisis: Soon after Russia invaded Ukraine, Humanity Nows long-time partner Refugee 4 Refugees set up an emergency reception center at a transit point along the Ukraine-Romania border. Humanity Now funds helped purchase basic supplieslike food and diapersthat were subsequently distributed to people fleeing the war. We also offered funding to SafePlace International to provide safe shelter apartments for members of the LGBTQ community and non-white refugees who fled Ukraine. The international aid team Refugee Support Europe set up a free shop called the Dignity Market in a border town in Moldova. This project allowed families to choose the food and other items (like toothbrushes, soap, and shampoo) that best suited their needs.Humanity Now teamed up with Indigo Volunteers on a multi-faceted coordination initiative in Poland. This project focused on supplying logistical and strategic support to help NGOs operate more effectively.
