Program areas at Hunger Free Oklahoma
Double up Oklahoma (duo) is a community-level intervention that seeks to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income and food-insecure oklahomans. Specifically, duo matches snap dollars spent at participating grocery stores and farmers markets up to $20 per day towards fresh fruits and vegetables. The model increases snap participants' food security by increasing their purchasing power, incentivizes healthy choices, supports local businesses, and leads to greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables for the entire community in which it operates.
Hunger Free Oklahoma's Hunger outreach program connects people in need to federal nutrition programs through direct support, such as summer ebt, Hunger Free Oklahoma's snap assistance hotline or www.meals4kidsok.org, and by connecting community partners to available federal nutrition programs. Addressing access to these programs will help alleviate family food insecurity. By collaborating with over 600 direct service providers and equipping them with outreach tools, education, training and technical assistance, research, and more for these programs allows our partners to focus on what they do best to serve their food-insecure clients and ensure those clients experience high quality service. This contributes directly to our mission, "leveraging the power of collaboration to solve Hunger in Oklahoma by improving systems, policies, and practices."
