Fellowship square provides affordable housing and services to seniors, 62 and older, at four apartment buildings within the Washington dc region. In 1979, fellowship square opened Hunters Woods fellowship house (hwfh), an independent living community of 224 apartments and a variety of programs and supportive services. Hwfh boasts a beautifully redecorated common space for activities, games, exercise, social events, and wellness programs. The property is adjacent to a local shopping plaza which makes daily errands easy and convenient for residents. The property operates a 14-seat passenger van for weekly shopping and errands and seasonal field trips for residents. The organization relies on a variety of programs and community partners, such as healthcare specialists, legal expertise and other pro bono services for resident education and wellness. An onsite service coordinator works with residents to navigate medicare, medicaid, and other benefits to which they are entitled, and serves as a linchpin to connect residents with other community resources. The property operates under section 223 (f) of the national housing act and participates in the section 8 program.
