Program areas at Idaho Grain Producers
Lobbying/legislative: successfully represent the interest of the Idaho wheat and barley commissions; worked with Idaho congressionaldelegation and national Grain affiliates on legislation to reauthorize federal farm programs and policies beneficial to Idaho grainfarmers; lobbied for increased congressional sponsorship of legislation to increase freight rail competition and accessibility nationallyand introduce legislation authorizing a demonstration project allowing 129,000 lb. Trucks to haul agricultural products on certaininterstate corridors in southern Idaho, among other initiatives.
Conventions: the igpa sponsors, promotes, hosts, and/or attends various state, regional, and national meetings and conventions eachyear. Annual conventions include the national association of wheat growers (nawg) fall and winter board of directors meetings and theannual commodity classic convention. In addition, the igpa attends two (winter and summer) national board meetings annually of thenational barley growers association, one national board meeting and legislative day with the alliance for rail competition group, andother strategic meetings or trips to gather information and/or to testify on issues specific to the Grain industry. The igpa hosts anannual state convention for Idaho Grain growers and affiliated agribusinesses serving as an education forum on issues, trends, andprojections in the Grain industry. This convention currently includes counterpart groups from neighboring states of Oregon andwashington.
Publications: the igpa serves as editor of a quarterly magazine that reports on issues, trends, research, statistics, and other topics to acirculation of 14,000 farmers and agribusinesses. This publication is a joint effort with the Idaho wheat commission and the Idaho barleycommission. The igpa provides content to newsletters and other reports pertinent, the igpa will submit opinion editorials to local andregional print media. The igpa launched and maintains a social media page in which to engage its membership and the general public.
