Program areas at Idaho Wildlife Federation
Salmon and steelhead recovery: campaign to recover Snake River stocks of salmon and steelhead by restoring the lower Snake River through breaching the lower four Snake river dams and replacing their services. IWF is the leading advocacy organization educating and mobilizing rural river communities to take action on this critical issue.
Public land stewardship: proactive and defensive campaigns that promote management prescriptions and conservation initiatives to benefit wildlife and habitat while balancing public access and responsible use. IWF employs grassroots strategies to engage and mobilize local communities, hunters, anglers, and supporters of wildlife conservation to speak up and guide management by public interest agencies. IWF serves on several officially recognized public land collaboratives and private coalitions to assess the needs of public forests, rangelands and water bodies, identify solutions to complex problems, and implement strategies.
Wildlife conservation policy advocacy: ongoing proactive and defensive campaigns ensuring Idaho maintains and enhances policies that benefit fish and wildlife, habitat, and hunting and fishing legacy. This work includes maintaining a presence at the statehouse to communicate grassroots values and disseminating information to constituents; educating local, state, and federal elected and appointed officials about conservation issues; conserving big game migration corridors; ensuring funding for conservation initiatives for specific species campaigns or for the benefit of habitat health on public and private grounds; providing official comments for federal processes (NEPA) and state actions; and much more.
IWF engages in several other programmatic services benefiting wildlife, public and private land habitat, and public access that don't fit neatly into primary program scopes. Such programmatic work includes public land access advocacy, on-the-ground ecosystem restoration, agency watchdog, grassroots engagement expansion, and educative programs.
