Immigrant Family Defense Fund

The majority of IFDFs time and resources are dedicated to connecting immigrant families in California public schools to qualified immigration legal representation and providing financial support for those services where possible. This work is carried out by IFDF's Outreach and Communications Manager and Lead Immigration Attorney. We work closely with the Oakland Unified School District OUSD. This program is conducted by telephone at school sites and by accompanying families to meetings with lawyers and immigration court proceedings.

IFDF operates a revolving bond fund to help parents siblings or students in California public schools who are detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement cover the cost of bond if the family lacks resources to do so themselves. This ensures families can remain together throughout immigration court proceedings which can often take months or years.
