Description
Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy provides direct legal representation to indigent detained immigrants throughout Louisiana on a pro bono basis, utilizing a universal representation model. ISLA advocates for detained immigrants by informing the public about their rights and needs. In 2018, the organization conducted consultations for 152 individuals in detention and represented 118 in immigration court, successfully securing the release of 22 clients back into their communities with families and friends.

Program areas at ISLA

In 2021, ISLA attorneys and staff provided pro-bono direct reprentation before the immigration court and the board of immigration appeals to 173 indigent immigrants in ICE detention. ISLA also represented 8 unaccompanied children and 3 immigrants who are mentally incompetent and unable to afford or represent themselves in immigration court. We provide orientation and assistance to immigrants unable to afford or access representation. In 2021 ISLA provided popular eucation, self workshops and training to 163 immigrants and in communities across Louisiana.
