The Indiana War memorial Foundation exists to perpetuate the commemoration of the veterans of the nations armed forces and to promote public support for the Indiana War Memorials, to preserve and promote the historical and education activities of the Indiana War Memorials, and to operate for the benefit and to support the purpose of the Indiana War memorial commission. The Indiana War Memorials commission is a governmental unit as an Indiana state agency. Indiana code, article 10-18-1-18 amended in 2005 provides the Indiana War Memorials commission powers to establish a non-profit corporation for the benefit of the commission.
