Program areas at Inprint
Inprint's literary performance programs include the Inprint margarett root brown reading series (ibrs); Inprint cool brains! Series; ink well: a podcast; Inprint escritores en la casa series; and related community programs - all at little or no cost to the public. Events include author readings, interviews, conversations, and book signings. Ibrs has featured more than 400 writers from 38 countries, including winners of 12 nobel prizes, 70 pulitzer prizes, 65 national book awards, 17 booker prizes, and 22 u.s. poets laureate. Cool brains! Has presented more than 40 renowned middle-grade authors, including winners of the newbery medal, national book award, and caldecott medal. Ink well has featured interviews in more than 29 episodes with leading latinx and latin american writers. Escritores en la casa, a spanish-language reading series, has showcased 15 acclaimed authors from the u.s., latin america, and spain. A total audience of 10,739 was directly served by these programs in 2022-2023.
Since 1983, Inprint has supported the next generation of literary writers by providing fellowships, juried prizes, and paid writing-related employment to more than 600 graduate students and local authors, totaling more than $4.5 million in direct support of writers. Inprint's support of graduate students at the university of houston (uh) creative writing program and undergraduates at rice university, along with outreach programs at other local universities and schools, enhances houston and helps to ensure - locally and nationally - the future of the written word. A total of 176 emerging authors received direct support via these programs in 2022-2023.
Inprint's literary engagement programs include writing workshops, poetry buskers, book club, and other community programs. Writing workshops provide the general public, senior citizens, adults with dementia, k-12 educators, healthcare employees, veterans, the incarcerated, and others with instruction in creative writing that enables them, depending on the group served, to strengthen their writing skills, prepare work for publication, create memoirs to be shared with families and friends, engage in personally rewarding activities, and improve cognitive abilities. Inprint poetry buskers bring the joy of poetry to festivals and public events throughout the greater houston area. The Inprint book club offers lively discussions on works by authors featured in ibrs. Total audience of 3,851 was directly served by these programs in 2022-2023.
