Program areas at Inroads
Inroads' college links program educates diverse high school students to help them explore careers, develop essential leadership skills, and prepare for college, particularly in stem (science, technology, engineering, and math) and business fields. The program is open to students of all backgrounds but its outreach is focused on youth from under resourced schools, students from families with low incomes, and first-generation college students. College links is designed to educate scholars and provide them broad exposure to the work world and the college world they will one day enter, ensure high school graduation, and increase college success. Continued on schedule othe program also helps develop a pipeline of highly skilled, diverse candidates entering high demand, high wage careers. Through intervention and support for students at a critical time in their development, college links helps students build self-awareness, confidence, and critical thinking skills. Program served 1,357 students in 15 cities accross the country.
The hbcu sustainable communities initiative (hbcu sci) fosters thriving communities by educating hbcu talent for careers in sustainability. Each year, approximately 100 students attending hbcus receive scholarships. Internship opportunities are also offered and enable students to learn first-hand about sustainability issues.
Inroads' internship programs educate college students to help them strengthen their job seeking abilities, acquire business soft skills, hone their leadership potential, benefit from academic and career support, secure paid internships and, ultimately, receive an offer of full-time employment in their career field. Using a blended learning model, Inroads' college programs target students in high-demand, high-wage careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) fields, business and entrepreneurship. Continued on schedule oadditionally, in many Inroads markets, interns are eligible for Inroads academic scholarships through a competitive process designed to recognize, encourage, and support outstanding interns who demonstrate leadership and scholarship. Ultimately, the program helps create a more equitable society by ensuring that students of all backgrounds are able to reach their potential and thrive professionally and financially. 2,316 students were served through pre-employment training; 657 students secured internships; and 82 students received scholarship support.
