Program areas at Institute for Community Empowerment

Listed below are the program accomplishments for the fiscal year ended june 30, 2023:expanded mental health services programsin partnership with the coalition to save our mental health centers, the Institute worked in summer 2022 with a team of local volunteers from its Community action team and in summer 2023 to educate residents in the southeast chicago area about the importance of mental health services and how to create a new mental health center for their Community. Throughout the year, it assisted the bronzeville expanded mental health services program governing commission at monthly meetings to lay the groundwork to implement plans for a new mental health center supported by 35,198 voters on november 30, 2020. It continued to support as requested two existing emhsp governing commissions on the west side and in the southeast chicago area to broaden the engagement of local residents. It worked with a team of youth in the roseland Community to assess their mental health service needs. Affordable homeownership developmentworking with the lugenia burns hope center, the Institute continued to help housing bronzeville leaders assemble a development team to build a first phase of new affordable homes on thirteen city-owned vacant lots in the bronzeville south Community of Washington park.citizens now programthe Institute completed its assessment of its spring 2022 twelve-week cycle of classes at providence-englewood charter school with 20 fifth, sixth, and seventh graders in attendance.
