Research, Reporting and Education: 2022 projects and accomplishments included: 1) Facing South online, which published regular reporting at the www.facingsouth.org website with an audience of more than 50,000 readers/month, and delivered fornightly email newsletters to a regional and national audience of 20,000 readers; 2) The Democracy Program, which tracked threats to voting rights, fair elections, and good government, and explored best practices for policy change, including more than 30 dispatches in Facing South and a report involving more than two dozen policy proposals for North Carolina; 3) The Southern Strategies Program, which documented the shifting demographic and political landscape of 13 Southern states and conducted research and analysis for regional and national partners; and, 4) The Julian Bond Fellowship program, which hired the Institute's third fellow for a nine-month program to train and support public interest journalists and researchers.
