Used community-based participator approaches to reduce tobacco inequities among African American males in the MS Delta River Region
This project was implemented to increase availability and accessibility to COVID-19 resources through 1) the establishment of a community advisory council; 2) the provision of COVID-19 education and 3) promote vaccine uptake in minority underserved communities through the implementation of community-based vaccine clinics using the community health worker model.
The Delta Comprehensive HIV Prevention (DCCHPP) program takes an integrated approach to reducing health disparities in the Mississippi by taking a holistic approach to HIV prevention and treatment that includes identifying those at risk for HIV, those persons with HIV and linking them to prevention and treatment services, providing community outreach and education, providing culturally specific training to local health care providers and enhancing social support systems. The reducing opioid abuse in Rankin County project utilizes a community-based 5 step component approach to address the opioid epidemic in Rankin County, MS.
The Healthy Families Initiative aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes for racial/ethnic minorities in Adams, Claiborne, Copiah, Hinds, Holmes, Issaquena, Madison, Rankin, Sharkey, Warren, and Yazoo Counties in Mississippi using a community health worker model.
The Institute offers trainings for community-based organizations to help them to improve their capacity to plan, develop, and implement public health programs.
Task forces and coalition projects aim to address inequities in the social determinates of health, such as poverty and healthcare access, affecting these groups are interrelated and influence a wide range of health and quality-of-life outcomes and risk.
