Research and Public EducationThe Institute to Reduce Spending produced regular briefs, one-pagers, and op-eds on various spending topics, with the goal of drilling down into complex issues and presenting them easily and accessibly to a general audience on our website and elsewhere. Subject areas covered included agriculture policy, defense spending, budget reforms, transportation policy, and criminal justice reforms.
Coalition Building and OutreachThe Institute to Reduce Spending continues to build working relationships with dozens of organizations across the political spectrum, as well as members of Congress, in order to bring our research to the largest possible audience.
Debt Ceiling Alternatives ProjectThe Institute to Reduce Spending contracted with Dr. Barry Poulson and Dr. John Merrifield, well-known experts in the field of state fiscal rules, to produce the first ever study of federal fiscal rules aimed at improving the nation's debt limit process and achieving fiscal responsibility. Multiple papers and editorials were produced and presented to various audiences, with the research eventually being turned into a full-length book.
