Program areas at International Fellowship for Mission As Transformation-Infemit
Center of Interdisciplinary Theological Studies (CETI): in Latin America, this program provides theological formation for adults from all different backgrounds and occupations through both online and in-person studies. The program's goal is to nurture communities and leaders in holistic, authentic, and transformative forms of living out the Kingdom of God and God's justice in the Latin American context. It provides students the opportunity to examine their work and vocation, family life, their place in society, and their participation in the community of faith in light of God's word, Church history, theology, and social sciences. At a postgraduate level, CETI continued to offer an online master's program in "Transformational Leadership" in conjunction with Bakke Graduate University. A total of 13 students were enrolled in the master's courses throughout the year. Additionally, we celebrated the graduation of 14 students from the previous programs, 11 with master's degrees and 3 with diplomas. At a popular level, CETI now offers two certification programs in Vida&MisiĆ³n (Life&Mission) and Contracorriente (Countercurrent). We had around 354 students enrolled in these programs throughout 2022, spread between the following countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, and the USA.
Regional Support: The organization provides support to partner organizations and regional fellowships in the form of speakers or participants' travel to regional consultations and small membership fees and donations. In 2022, INFEMIT continued our initiative to connect groups of theologian-practitioners from around the globe in monthly online fellowship. INFEMIT used its Stott-Bediako Forum to strengthen affiliated organizations and deepen partnerships with organizations like Tearfund. Members of INFEMIT also sought to revitalize important regional fellowships, particularly the African Theological Fellowship which has been somewhat inactive in recent years, as well as a fellowship of theologian-practitioners in Europe. Several members of INFEMIT participated in the annual meeting of the American Society of Missiology. INFEMIT members also continued to provide support to regional events through online and in-person presentations; we also strengthened our network of partnerships by regularly curating a newsletter with information about our partners.
Stott-Bediako: The Stott-Bediako events are short conferences and consultations on issues of the gospel and mission. In 2022, INFEMIT hosted events on the topic: "Jesus and Empire: Christian Witness in the Context of Power." The first event was a consultation held with a small working group of contributors in Wheaton, IL. Twelve participants attended in person, and they were joined by another six people online. The work of the consultation helped prepare for the public forum, which was held online and in-person in Arad, Romania in October 2022. Those registered for the forum numbered 155 in total; from 43 countries in every region of the world. The forum also included presentations by 29 people. Outcomes of the event included several pieces of content: interviews, papers, and videos published and available online to the public; as well as opportunities for networking and building fellowship among the participants.
Academic Projects: Academic projects include writing and publications in areas related to the organization's mission and participation in consultations and research on important topics of mission in the world today. INFEMIT particularly seeks to support the work of younger leaders in this area. In 2022, INFEMIT included many young scholar-practitioners in the organization, research, and publication related to our Stott-Bediako Forum (Jesus and Empire: Christian Witness in the Context of Power). It also continued to highlight the work of global scholar-practitioners through content in multimedia formats online through our newsletter, social media, and website.
Faith and Life is a curriculum development program that shares a model for theological formation "from and for life" that can be adapted and used by organizations or churches in different regions. Regionally diverse programs are created and contextualized that form church and community leaders to practice mission as transformation in their contexts. In 2022, the Faith and Life program continued to be used in master's and doctoral level programs on "Faith and Public Life" at the University of Arad in Romania. The goal of the Faith and Life program is to identify and accompany regional and local leaders through the process of creating contextually appropriate theological formation programs that encourage the doing of theology "from and for life."
