International Indian Treaty Council accomplishes the exempt purposes set forth by its Board of Directors. Program areas at International Indian Treaty Council

Human rights training and capacity building program: increases indigenous knowledge about their human rights affirmed by the united nations declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples and other International standards. Training workshops are carried out for tribal nations and communities and presentations at conferences and events encourage the informed, direct participation of indigenous peoples, including women and youth, in national and International processes impacting their rights and survival, and build their capacity to use a human rights approach to address critical concerns.
Environmental health program: provides information, networking and training for indigenous communities to address the severe health, environmental and human rights impacts of toxic pesticides, persistent organic pollutants, mercury, mining and other extractive industries. It promotes safe alternatives, north/south and cross cultural information exchange, capacity building, free prior and informed consent, and government and corporate accountability. The indigenous women's reproductive health initiative is a key component and focuses on building leadership and capacity of indigenous women and girls as educators and trainers to build awareness about the impacts of environmental toxins on reproductive and children's health.
Food sovereignty program: builds the informed participation of indigenous peoples in local, national and International processes to protect and restore their traditional food systems and defend their food sovereignty using a rights and culturally based approach. Iitc partners on key initiatives with un food and agricultural organization (unfao) and represents indigneous peoples on using the "cultural indicators for food sovereignty and sustainable development- and supports restoration, sharing, and transmission to new generations of traditional knowledge and practices, seeds and methods for adaptation to climate change.
