Summer fellowship programthe irts summer fellowship program provides outstanding competitively selected students from across the nation with a chance to experience the realities of working on the media industry. The nine-week expense-paid opportunity begins with a one-week comprehensive orientation at which students have a rare chance to meet professionals during field trips, panels, networking sessions, and a major industry event. Fellows then move on to an eight-week, full-time internship at a new york based corporation. Irts continues to provide educational seminars and career counseling throughout the summer. In 2022, fellows received transportation to and from new york, hotel accomodations during orientation week, and an allowance. The internship portion of the program was remote this year because host companies were still readjusting to a post-pandemic office structure. Graduates of the summer fellowship program emerge with a better understanding of our business along with carefully honed skills that increase marketability in their job search.
Faculty industry seminarirts faculty seminars provide a forum for university educators and career service professionals from across the nation to meet with top media professionals in order to understand the sweeping changes taking place in our industry, as well as where the greatest opportunities exist for their students. This allows educators to teach in a more timely and relevent way. For more than five decades these seminars have provided a level playing field where professors from schools that vary in size, wealth, reputation, and approach all have an opportunity to hear from those at the forefront of our industry. The theme of the 2022 program was advancing student success in the media industry.
Multicultural career workshopsince 1983, the annual irts multicultural career workshop has helped increase diversity in the media business by educating college students and recent graduates about opportunities in our industry, as well as by introducing them to recruiters from top companies. In 2022, more than 150 students were selected from across the nation to receive a full day of orientation, before having an opportunity to interview for jobs and/or internships with recruiters from broadcasting, cable, advertising, publishing, digital and ancillary media companies.
Throughout the year, irts provides complimentary career assistance in different forms, including ongoing counseling and mentoring to its graduates, advice to visiting (or remote) groups of students, an annual networking alumni event, exchanges via dedicated alumni social media groups, and more.
