Program areas at International Tibet Network
Campaign Coordination. In 2023 International Tibet Network supported a number of major campaigns. One of our key priorities was 'Tibet's Stolen Children,' which focuses on China's system of colonial boarding schools in Tibet, housing approximately 1,000,000 Tibetan children. This campaign secured two UN Treaty Body outcomes and recommendations at China's 4th UPR. Other areas of work included campaigns to end State surveillance against Tibetans in Tibet, press for the release of political prisoners and coordinated campaign strategies around securing His Holiness the Dalai Lama's reincarnation, G20 and G7 meetings and Tibet's climate crisis.
Training and Capacity Building. In 2023 we convened advocates for specific training in the Universal Periodic Review process in Geneva, Switzerland (September). Other in-person training and expert briefings were held in Prague and Tokyo, including on strategic planning, Tibet's historical status, Colonial Boarding Schools, China's attempts to control the Dalai Lama's reincarnation, cross-movement alliance building and the Universal Periodic Review. Online training sessions and expert briefings and support were provided on fundraising, digital security, Tibet's Climate Crisis, and social media amplification
Meetings and Conferences. During 2023 there were a series of meetings and conferences for the purposes of strategic planning and capacity building (see below). These included a European Regional Meeting which took place in Prague, Czech Republic (April) and an Asia Regional Meeting in Tokyo, Japan (October). Additionally, the Network was represented at conferences on climate change. We continued to host regular weekly online meetings for member groups as well as regular campaign working group sessions.
