See schedule ointiman Theatre (the Theatre) uses the power of story and education to activate dialogue, confront inequity, and build collective joy. In the summer of 2021, Intiman became the professional theatre-in-residence at seattle central college (scc) in the heart of the capitol hill arts district adjacent to downtown. This new, groundbreaking partnership with scc included a permanent home for the Theatre administrative offices, shops and rehearsals, with productions happening at the erickson Theatre and broadway performance hall on the scc campus. As part of this agreement, Intiman now operates an associate of arts degree emphasis in technical Theatre for social justice at the college, which launched in september 2021.intiman was founded in 1972 and won the 2006 tony award for outstanding regional Theatre, the 2018 gregory award for outstanding musical, and a 2019 mayor's arts award. We seek to inspire national activism from the intersection of our seattle communities. We are fearless in our examination of traditional Theatre operations and arts education models; and we dare to imagine and enact revolutionary new practices, leading to a more equitable world. Our work is centered around people of color, womxn, lgbtq+ individuals, immigrants, people with disabilities and others who have been historically disenfranchised by systemic oppression. Our goal is to expand who has access to art, who has the skills to make art, and who can experience art as a vehicle to personal and societal transformation.intiman produces professional theatrical offerings that invite our audience to grapple with the most pressing issues of our time. Equal importance is placed on our educational offerings, including the starfish project: a free-of-cost technical Theatre mentoring program primarily serving seattle's bipoc and low-income high-school aged youth. We also partner with seattle central college to offer an associate of arts degree, and we fiscally sponsor south end stories (ses), a black-led arts organization enriching schools and teaching professionals with trauma-informed, antiracist and identity-affirming steam (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) offerings. Ses currently operates in ten public schools throughout seattle.
