Program areas at ISLE ROYALE and Keweenaw Parks ASSOCIATION
Interpretive products and services: Stocked sales areas in four National Park Service visitor centers with high quality educational and interpretive products and helped staff these areas. Fulfilled phone and online mail order sales orders. Published and wholesaled interpretive materials and books. Employed a college intern and a high school student during the summer. Developed a new Isle Royale bird checklist. Initiated work on a new book based on transcriptions of the Isle Royale House logbooks.
Direct financial aid to Isle Royale National Park and Keweenaw National Historical Park funded the following projects: Printing of the 2022 Greenstone and Keweenaw Guide park newspapers for free distribution to park and area visitors; a seasonal park interpreter position at the Rock Harbor visitor center; materials and lodging costs for training of Park Service seasonal rangers, interpretive materials and outreach supplies, badges for the Junior Ranger program, and installation of an outdoor water bottle re-fill station at the Houghton visitor center.
Member and public programs: Assisted park visitors with trip planning and on-site questions. Staffed booths at community outreach events. Provided a public program in association with our annual meeting. Offered two 6-day botany workshops and two 6-day night sky workshops, as well as a service trip to remove invasive plants. Created and announced two new opportunities for university students to obtain research grants for studies relevant to our parks. Conducted two fundraising campaigns, maintained donor records and membership database. Published three editions of our newsletter, The Wolf's Eye, for distribution to our members and posting online.
