Get Heart smart outreach program with the ms children's museum - through jhf's direct support, the Mississippi children's museum (mcm) has been able to successfully reach children across the state with a unique outreach program that educates children and teachers about the importance of taking care of their hearts. This outreach program was developed to educate children regarding three facets of Heart health through an innovative, interactive program model that can travel throughout the state. In the get Heart smart program, students learn about the anatomy of the circulatory system and its primary functions using a larger-than-life Heart and lungs floor map. They will also discuss making healthy choices regarding food, sleep, and exercise as well as the impact good citizenship can make on one's health.
The museum trail is our signature program focused on building an expansive multi-use trai for walking and biking connecting 1.4 miles of pathways to museums, parks, and neighborhoods. The last decade, jhf has served as a fiduciary to reserve private funds for the project to match the city's public funds. This multi-purpose trail will connect the Mississippi farmer's market and downtown museums to the Mississippi children's museum and natural science museum at lefleur's bluff state park. The trail's phase 1 grand opening was october 10, 2020 and is a great asset to those living in the Jackson metro area. Funds were raised to complete phase 1 of an expansive multi-use trail for walking and biking connecting 1.4 miles of pathways to museums, parks, and neighborhoods. Phase 2 of construction is expected to be completed in october 2023 in the lefleur museum district. Our vision is to create a healthier Jackson that increases access to outdoor exercise, promotes mental health, and increases the quality of life for our community.
