Athletic & Sports Programs: The Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program (JSMP) in Jacksonville, Florida, is a volunteer-based organization that advocates for youth sports injury prevention. The Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program is a community healthcare collaborative, non-profit organization that works with coaches, doctors, other healthcare professionals, parents and other community members interested in making sports safer. The program provides schools with education, prevention tactics and advocates for the inclusion of licensed athletic trainers within youth sporting organizations, programs and events. This program has been actively serving our community for more than 38 years. Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program is supported by: Wolfson Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Health System, the Duval County Medical Society, Brooks Rehabilitation and the Duval County Public Schools. The JSMP is dedicated to youth sports safety through awareness, advocacy and injury prevention. Physician members of JSMP volunteered 437.5 hours of service (170 games per regular season and 5 post season events) as team physicians for community schools. Using a conservative volunteer hour value in Florida of $250.00/hr. physician service, the estimated cash value of the volunteer hours provided exceeded $109,375. In 2022, Educational programming consisted of, our 12th Annual Symposium, & the 5th Annual Emergency Preparations course and a high school student's healthcare symposium, the total attendance for these events is summarized in the programs summary below. 2022 programs summary Symposium Total: 164 Participants Symposium Total CEU's: 295 This year JSMP trained more than 130 coaches in sports injury safety programs with a value of more than $30,000. This includes review and prep needed for implementation of the new Zachary Martin Act legislation that was passed for student-athlete safety in 2020 which included training for the entire state. Other various program service accomplishments include the following: (1) Parent and coach education on Heat Illness and Concussion in sports (2) Hosted Collaborative Solutions for Safety in Florida High School Sports Meeting (3) Engaged a system of care for sports related concussions, (4) participated within organizations with similar missions, (5) provided seasonal coaches education programs, (6) planned and hosted the annual JSMP Annual Symposium, (7) provided athletic training services to select events, (8) hosted the annual First Coast Sports Injury Symposium and (9) Sports Medicine educational series, a virtual education series on sports medicine topics.
