Program areas at Jacobs Ladder

The mission of the diversion and reentry programs is to reduce the number of juveniles entering and returning to the juvenile justice system and to strengthen families and develop youth. To provide juvenile diversion mentoring and assistance with juvenile reentry into society after returning to the community following incarceration. We provide weekly sessions at Maryland's department of juvenile services and detention centers in the dc area. We teach juveniles and their families effective strategies to end destructive patterns of behavior before criminal arrests and adulthood and we strive to provide successful rehabilitation and transition to the community to end destructive behaviors. We include the entire family during this process. To develop youth, school supplies and clothing were given to at risk youth. Approximately 1,000 youth and families are served annually with our programs.
Covid relief-keeping our wonderful community healthy and safe is a priority. We distributed 3000 protective masks, 2000 hygiene kits and 1200 meals. We donated $1500 to homeless shelters in Maryland and Washington, dc and provided lunch to 300 first responders for keeping our community safe during these unprecedented times.
The mission of the junior workforce academy is to prepare our future generation to compete for employment. We introduce workplace skills that employers seek. Participants are exposed to preparing resumes, interview strategies, responding to work, how to read a check and the importance of saving.studies have shown that students who participate with career training and are educated about personal finances are more likely to achieve higher levels of educational attainment, employment, income and entrepreneurship.
