James Island Outreach strengthens the communities of James Is. & Folly Beach by uniting them in service to those in need. They provide a range of services to clients and improve the quality of life for all. The organization offers client-choice food assistance, financial assistance, and referrals for neighbors experiencing economic challenges. In total, emergency assistance with utility, rent, and medical bills was provided to 180 households.

Program areas at James Island Outreach

Food assistance is provided through a client-choice model to promote client empowerment and health. Clients are able to choose from fresh produce and meats, bakery items and non-perishables based on household nutrition needs and preferences. Serving an average of 233 households per month, 188,277 lbs of food, valued at 325,633, was distributed to neighbors in need. An additional 25,636 pounds of food, valued at 44,350, was distributed to other non-profit organizations fighting hunger in the charleston community.
Critical home repairs is a new program which helps clients conduct critical repairs such as leaking roofs, damaged floors, plumbing leaks and window replacements. Three home repairs totaling 13,154 were accomplished in the first three months of this program.
Financial assistance and referrals are provided to help neighbors experiencing financial hardship, housing insecurity and other economic challenges. Emergency assistance with utility, rent and medical bills totaling 28,268 was provided to 180 households. Through partnership with the trident united way americorps program, a family navigator provides 1:1 consultations to assist with public and private benefits applications, eligibility screening and free tax prep.
