Program areas at Jean Appolon Expressions
Community-centered dance classes and workshops: JAE empowers community members to see themselves as dancers and storytellers. JAE is building a global dance community that works to advance cultural equity and social justice by engaging people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds particularly Black and Indigenous people of color, and people who are experiencing poverty. The company holds recurring and one time classes, workshops and an annual retreat (based in the DR) for its community members in the US, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Professional Dance Company: JAE's Haitian contemporary dance company combines Modern technique and Haitian folkloric dance, bringing a new artistic vernacular to its audiences. With its dynamic repertoire, JAE educates audiences about Haitian culture, traditions, history, and current social and political issues.
Youth Dance Education programs: JAE leads dance education classes through school-based partnerships and intensives, the Summer Dance Institute, Kids Creative Dance classes, a Youth Apprentice Program, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Enrichment programs. These educational offerings take place across Massachusetts and other US based cities, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
