JSC organized a community-driven road diet through a public-private partnership that advocated for slower speeds, the first protected bike lane in the City of Wilmington, and more pedestrian access for residents and stakeholders. This project on Baynard Boulevard was a partnership with Urban Bike Project, Wilmapco and the Delaware Department of Transportation.
JSC provides community residents free Zumba exercise classes in our gym two evenings a week, with a professional instructor, providing another avenue to promote healthy activities. We also offer pickleball and basketball.
JSC has provided to "seed funding" for local businesses to promote economic development efforts.
Community engagement has been enhanced by organizing a farmer's market with fresh produce, providing access to healthy food and providing a place for local vendors to sell their products.
JSC provided support and management services for the Community Hub Food Pantry, Clothing Closet, recreation programs in the gym, community outreach and engagement, the famer's market, and community beautification. This included the use of two Public Allies and the time of the Executive Director and Executive Assistant.
