Program areas at Jesse C Fletcher Seminary
Based upon student and faculty feedback, our educational products and services expertly meet the need for practical education for lay and ordained students that can be readily implemented in various contexts, e.g., creating a new campus ministry. What happens in our classrooms is spirit-filled and life changing as students take what theyve learned in class each week to the pulpit in San Antonio, the church committee in Houston, or the Kenyan orphanage they lead to share it with those they serve. We have earned a reputation as a truly welcoming, inclusive, and ecumenical seminary, offering high quality online classes to lay and ordained students that are taught by experts who have lived what they teach. This attracts serious students, outstanding adjunct faculty and important partners like the Alliance for Baptists, the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, and the Integer Network. We have changed lives through our intentional recruitment from groups that have been historically disadvantaged and often excluded from theological education. One example: an adjunct faculty member inspired a Black pastor by inspiring him to look in the mirror, a reflection on leadership that changed his relationship with his congregation.
As a start-up, and in the first year revenues did not provide enough funding for hiring staff. Professionals donated their time. Fletcher Seminary had 4,073 hours of In-Kind Professional Services totaling $196,679. This time was spent developing courses, providing accounting services, delivering classes, writing policies, developing marketing materials, supervising staff, reviewing CVs and interviewing potential Adjunct Faculty, and all hours were recorded on In-Kind Reporting forms and posted to the P&L reporting. A log is kept by Professional, by date of work performed, by month work performed, and maintained on the Fletcher Online data storage.
