Workers Rights: Through our Workers Rights program, we convene workers organizations and community groups to advance a shared agenda for low-wage workers. In 2023 we conducted workers rights trainings to strengthen the on-the-job organizing of our members who are day laborers, domestic workers and service workers. We helped win statewide anti-retaliation legislation to protect workers who organize, as members of the California Coalition for Worker Power. We mobilized labor and community to stand up for people and planet against APECs anti-worker agenda and to stand up to the Mayor for a just city budget.
Climate Jobs: In 2023 we publicly launched a coalition called California Labor for Climate Jobs to push for good union jobs in the new energy economy and protect workers from climate hazards such as extreme heat. We pushed for labor and equity standards on billions of dollars of federal infrastructure funding to make sure new green jobs are family-supporting jobs. We successfully advocated and won $250,000 to fund a study of the economic impact of the oil and gas industry on local and state tax revenue an important first step toward protecting workers and communities and maintaining critical local services in regions undergoing transition. We advocated for the master plan for healthy, sustainable and climate resilient schools to secure safe learning and working conditions for students and school staff, to meet our state's GHG reduction targets, and to advance equity and good jobs.
