The Society manages a library that houses an extensive catalog of material on Johnson County families, cemetery records, births and deaths, along with over 6,000 photos. Additionally, the library holds microfilm records of census data, births and deaths as well as copies of six present and former county newspapers dating back many years.

Program areas at Johnson County Historical Society

The Society maintains a library containing cataloged material on Johnson County families, cemetary records, births and deaths & over 6,000 photos. Has microfilm records of census, births & deaths, copies of six present & former County newspapers, dating back to the 1820s. Maintains museum of 5,000+ items common to the County in years past. Has restored and maintains the 1838 County courthouse. Moved to our site and restored a one room school house, furnished in 1900-30s era. Volunteers keep the four buildings open for tours and research 1-4 pm monday thru saturday and other times by appointment.
