Program areas at Johnson Hall
For the year ended june 30, 2023, we have provided an opportunity for over 3,500 people to experience performing arts in our 117 seat theater, in their classroom and via live streaming worldwide. Building on our strong rebound from the pandemic last year, we continued our free waterfront concert series and return to in person performances. By presenting world- class entertainment, we also drive economic and cultural growth in central Maine. During the year, Johnson Hall presented about 30 artist performances - theater, dance, music, comedy, etc. And provided the venue for same. Our artists in the schools program brings performing artists into area schools at no cost to the school. Children are exposed to a wide range of artists including magicians, jugglers, comedians and more. For some children in our area, this is their only exposure to live performing arts. Our free summer waterfont concert series provides an opportunity for people from all over the area to enjoy live music at no cost in gardiner's waterfront park. Johnson Hall pays for musicians from a wide range of musical genres to perform. Like artists in the schools, this is often the only exposure that attendees have to live musical performances. Fy 2023 saw the continuing of the renovation of the second and third floors that will include a 400 seat theater on the third floor, a second floor lobby and concession area, restrooms and a green room for performers, as well as an ada compliant elevator for access to the upper floors. Construction is expected to be completed in december, 2023 with performances in the new space beginning in spring of 2024. With the building closed during the construction phase, we have continued to provide performances using space at locations in our area, proving once again that Johnson Hall will continue to remain relevant by providing world-class entertainment for the central Maine area.
