Our Ecology Program with its Arts & Ecology Center, is a demonstration site for sustainable drylands management, food security and ecology education, to the public. Hundreds of people have toured our grounds, and thousands have learned about drylands ecology through two film features highlighting our efforts. Our ecology education Permaculture Design certification two week course certified 20 people. 200 youth toured our ecology site and we held an arts, ecology and science youth camp. Our Public Performance Program brings diverse world-class musicians/artists for residencies to create and share their work through public performances within our rural community. Being an underserved rural community, most of these creative offerings would not otherwise be available. We presented 10 musical and cultural performances, which reached 425 live audience members. In addition, our artists-in-residence presented 10 free performances at local school assemblies and reached nearly 5000 youth with diverse cultural music. In-kind donations in the form of Facility Rental for this program equaled $3,725 and an additional donation for $10,400 for lodging.
Youth Program includes interacting with the Morongo Unified School District to provide educational field trips to our arts and ecology center for over 200 kids and in-school music and cultural assembly performances for over 5,000 youth audience members. We held a five-week summer camp free of charge for 38 youth ages 8-12 years old including music, arts, science and ecology education. We provided a youth scholarship to our 2 week Permaculture Design Certification course. In-kind donations in the form of Facility Rental for this program equaled $5,500.
