NURSING JOURNALS -In 2004, JKF created the Nurse's Journal in response to the growing awareness of the challenges in the nursing profession that can lead to stress and burnout. These journals have been distributed to over 20,000 nurses from around the country. The Journal contains exercises that help nurses reflect on, and write about, work-related stress and personal issues that can affect their lives. It also includes before- and after- stress evaluation charts that enable nurses to assess their stress levels and note any changes after completing the journal exercises. This can help raise awareness of stress symptoms so they can be addressed in a timely manner. There are additional journal pages for free writing where nurses can write about whatever is on their minds. In 2011-12, JKF partnered with Medstar Georgetown University Hospital to revise and revamp the Nurse's Journal. The new Nurse's Journal continues to serve as a tool for the hard-working nurses who do so much for all of us; and, who sometimes perhaps forget to take care of themselves. In 2012, 4,212 Nurse's Journals were shipped to nurses across the country benefiting each nurse who has received one. In 2013 approximately 4,073 were shipped and in 2014, 1072 were distributed. In 2015, 2,509 copies were shipped out to nurses across the country. In 2016, 3,761 Nurse's Journals were shipped. In 2017, 1,699 Nurse's Journals were shipped across the country, and in 2018, 2,726 were shipped. In 2019, 770 Nurse's Journals were shipped. In 2021, 1,106 Nurse's Journals were shipped. A portion of Cost of Goods Sold expense of approximately $11,680 is for this program.
PINS - The Josie King Hero Pins were created for any and all healthcare providers who share their good catch story with the patient safety/quality team at their hospital. The idea is to help provide a culture where caregivers are recognized and rewarded for finding the near misses, reporting them, and fixing them. The Josie King Hero pins are our way of thanking you for creating a culture of patient safety. A portion of Cost of Goods Sold expense of approximately $952 is for this program.
PUBLIC AWARENESS - PUBLIC AWARENESS INCLUDES EXPENSES RELATED TO TRAVEL FOR EVENTS. SORREL KING, PRESIDENT AND CO-FOUNDER OF THE JOSIE KING FOUNDATION TRAVELS AROUND THE COUNTRY TO RAISE AWARENESS AROUND PATIENT safety. Sorrel King has become a nationally renowned patient safety advocate.
