Program areas at Journey the Ed Colina Foundation
Programming was conducted in Kibera Slums - Food, Books, School Fees etc. There are approximately 250 students taking part in this slum school and the Foundation assists in its operation by funds and in an advisory capacity. These funds a used for teachers salaries, uniforms, as well as the daily rice and beans. The Foundation does not operate this school but assists in mentoring, advising and supporting with expertise, materials and food.
Therapies were provided weekly for close to 60 young children with Cerebral Palsy. Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, a Nutritionist and Pediatrician services were provided on a daily basis. Food and other materials were provided, as were wheelchairs. We assist with locating children with disabilities in a remote area of Kenya and making sure they are receiving services.
A farm and water project and borehole is operated in Machakos, Kenya. The purpose is to provide water for the community as well as irrigate a five-acre farm at the site of the Otunga Childrens Center. Also at that site, relief food was provided for Elderly. Expenses are for farm operations.
In the remote areas of Turkana in Northern Kenya, The Foundation helps to construct iron sheet structures, a classroom and kitchen for the school children of the area.
The Foundation assists some students (elementary, high school etc.) with school fees, books and materials needed for education. The number served varies according to need. We also assist elderly with food in Machakos Kenya, in times of drought.
The Foundation provides emergency relief food, especially to elderly and children, etc. in Turkana, Kenya.
This year, we have undertaken the task of providing some housing and food relief to some in the area of Kakuma Kenya. Donations were given for this purpose and expended in construction, education fees and food relief in that area of Kenya and others.
