During the 2022/2023 academic year, Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana (JASWIN) served a total of 14,495 students in 670 classes resulting in more than 68,271 individual contact hours spent between volunteers and the students they inspire. This means that the Organization provided JA experiences to 17% of K-12 students in our 15-county service area. A 2020 lPSOS marketing research firm survey revealed that 80% of Junior Achievement alumni across the country said JA played an important role in their pursuit of further education. Over half of JA alumni are likely to start or own a business during the course of their career. And 90% of alumni said they have confidence in managing their money. Further, the study revealed that women and men are equally likley to say JA played an important role in their decision to pursue further education, fostering a commitment to personal development, and their belief that they could achieve goals. With proven curricula delivered by volunteer mentors, JASWIN is providing young people with real world skills they want and need, like how to manage money, how to prepare for a career, and how to open and run a business. In the process, students are connecting classroom learning to the real world. This allows them to recognize the value of staying in school, increasing the likelihood that they will graduate. Because of the regard for our young people demonstrated by so many in this community, students are receiving life changing financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship education. JA programs contribute to the vitality of our community and the availability of a well-educated workforce.
