Program areas at Junior League of Wilmington
In 2022/2023 the Junior League of Wilmington made substantial donations of time and resources to the local community through various activities. With our signature initiative stand up. Period., we added period equity via community and member training, the establishment of a period supply banking program and direct donations to the multiple community partners such as meet me at the well, reach warehouse, st. stephen's lutheran community food bank, and the hope center. Through advocacy and awareness programming, our members played a substantial role in requiring access to free periods supplies in all public and charter schools statewide. In total, our efforts resulted in 218 volunteer hours and over 250,000 period supply donations to more than 10,000 people. In addition, the jlw helped to address other vital needs in our communities through our 'done in a day' programs, where we contributed to activities such as clothing drop offs, supporting food banks, writing cards for senior citizens, and making pet toys. The League also stayed true to its mission to develop the potential of women by providing a variety of personal and professional development learning sessions and hands-on experiences. Members learned how poverty impacts access to period supplies, how to advocate for change in their local communities, professional skills such as linkedin and excel tips, large-scale virtual event planning, fundraising and grant writing, and how to develop and run youth-focused educational programming.
