Program areas at Just the Beginning
Empowerment Program - Empowerment Groups are weekly sessions for Diversion and Reentry participants. Attendance for participants are: Diversion at 11 am; Reentry at 3p, every Tuesday and Thursday of the week. Groups include: Therapy (group setting), facilitated by a Licensed Therapist. Therapy group is held in the first two weeks of the month. Substance Abuse treatment is evidence based curriculum facilitated by JTB staff. Curriculum includes Coping skills, resiliency, habit changes, behavioral health, etc. Life Skills is evidence based curriculum facilitated by JTB staff. Curriculum includes Boundaries, time management, finances, goal setting, purpose, etc.
Community Outreach is JTB's opportunity to serve the community through two annual events: 1) 2nd Chance Hiring Event supports those individuals who have been justice impacted the opportunity to present their skills and experience to employers who are willing to give those with a negative background record, a second and 'Fair Chance' at employment. 2) Fall Carnival is an opportunity for other organizations who serve justice impacted individuals and families to come out and share their resources and services. The event is held close to the end of the fall season, with a costume contest, prizes, games, and fun activities for the whole family. 3) Prison Ministry is served at Mabel Bassett Correction Center (MBCC) near OKC. JTB staff and volunteers facilitate and teach Boundaries to the women of the facility throughout the year. The classes are held on Friday's in eight week sessions - 2 hours each week.
HealthyMatters is a four component educational program that includes: Nutrition, Mental, Physical and Spiritual Wellness. There are quarterly workshops covering each component throughout the year. Each component is a one 2 hour session up to four 2 hour sessions. Each session is held primarily at the Just The Beginning location in designated meeting or conference rooms which is determined by each workshop agenda and activity. Each component is a facilitated workshop by approved outside vendors and speakers.
