Program areas at JusticeAid

Throughout 2023 JusticeAid has promoted awareness of voter suppression and raised money for our grantee partner Black Voters Matter (BVM). JusticeAid fulfilled its mission by granting BVM $600,000 in 2023. In 2023, JusticeAid produced two live benefit concerts: JusticeAid presents Nina Simone! in New York in May featuring contemporary artists singing tributes to Nina Simone, and Tank and the Bangas in Washington, DC in October. Both concerts included a short film by Emmy-award winning producers on the history of voter suppression and a performance by JusticeAids first artist in residence, spoken word artist Paine the Poet. 100% of ticket sales and sponsorships from both music concerts provided unrestricted funds for JusticeAids 2023 grantee partner. Board members and a circle of loyal donors covered all operating costs and program expenses so that 100% of other donations supported our grantee partners work.
In October 2023 in Washington, DC, JusticeAid hosted a free public educational forum Boots to the Ballot Box, moderated by MSNBC anchor Joy Reid with Black Voters Matter co-founders Cliff Albright and LaTosha Brown, and Damon Hewitt, President and Executive Director of Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, as panelists.
