Program areas at K9 Care Montana
We continue to provide service dogs and customized outdoor activities to wounded veterans, First Responders, and families challenged by Autism. 2022, we have 10 new service dog projects in train including two in cooperation with Heart of the Valley animal shelter in Bozeman. Two of the dogs are being trained to mitigate the effects of Autism. We were fortunate to find both ground and air transport to deliver pups from out of state breeders. We celebrated a 10-year relationship with Missoula TSA who graciously provides relevant training for our participants. Bozeman TSA is now extending that courtesy as well. Our 2250 square foot indoor training facility is complete and up and running at our operational center in Livingston. Beyond serving our training needs, we expect to make this facility available for use by likeminded not for profit organizations focused on healing veterans. Neither K9CMT nor others permitted use of the building will be charged rent or a fee.A number of our recipients were able to participate in our invigorating and fulfilling outdoor activities including ice fishing on Lake Francis in Valier, fly fishing on the Missouri, and pheasant hunting in Choteau, MT.Once again K9CMT has been recognized by the State of Montana as one of its Great Nonprofits. This designation reflects the broad support we have among Montanans who see value in our work.I want to make special mention of a first. A new department was created within the Department of Defense, The US Space Force. Their first retiree is a recipient of one of our service dogs as was her husband some years back.
