Program areas at Kansas Association of Wheat Growers

The Association membership includes approximately 600 producers and nearly 100 associate members. The Association provides the monthly newsletter, the Wheat farmer/ row crop farmer, as a benefit for all members.
Kawg incorporated the business entity for the Kansas innovation center for advanced plant design called heartland plant innovations. Wheat producers, through kawg, own 19.69% of the authorized shares of heartland plant innovations. The $4 million award from the Kansas bioscience authority for the innovation center began a public and private collaboration between Kansas Wheat, Kansas state university, the university of Kansas and many private investors. The center uses a unique, state-of the art technology platform to conduct Wheat, sorghum and native plants research targeted to specific market needs in the areas of human health and nutrition, animal nutrition and health and biofuels/biomaterials.
Initiatives in federal advocacy on behalf of Wheat Growers include implementation of the federal agricultural programs, federal appropriations for key Wheat research projects and influencing environmental and food labeling legislation in congress. State legislative advocacy included protecting vital Wheat industry programs from state budget cuts, monitoring some clean up on water rights laws, influencing discussions on pesticides and chemical law and the state transportation plan development.
